Damiana is a shrub like plant with small yellow flowers which give off an aroma like Chamomile and belongs to the Turneraceae family of plants.
Found in Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean, Damiana is used in herbal medicine to treat a whole range of medical problems; constipation, depression, coughs, fibromyalgia, bed wetting, impotence and sexual performance in both men and women.

Damiana is traditionally made into a tea mixed with sugar. If mixed with Passionflower some claim it produces lucid dreaming. Smoking quantities of Damiana larger than 1g can lead to an unpleasant hangover type after effect.
It has never been scientifically proved what part of the chemical structure of the plant causes this leading some to claim Damiana does not produce psychoactive effects at all.
First discovered in Mexico when indigenous Indians used it to enhance sexual performance it is used in a variety of modern “sexual enhancement “or “aphrodisiac” pills and tinctures which users highly recommend. As well as this, Damiana is used in Herbal Cigarettes and beauty products.
Damiana is listed as “generally recognized as safe” by the FDA.
